2012 Nelson Mandela International Day in New Delhi, India

The South African High Commission in New Delhi hosted a mass event on Nelson Mandela International Day called “Bikers for Mandela Day Riders” together with Sun Foundation and a bikers organisation called Free Souls which saw hundreds of participants donating to the Touch of Hope Foundation, an Indian NGO with assists people with HIV/AIDS by providing health care facilities and medication, food parcels and education.  Through the event, not only were the principles of Madiba (Nelson Mandela as he affectionately known) promoted but the people of India also generously responded to the call of giving back to humanity and contributed 94 minutes, symbolic of Madiba’s age, of their time to community service. We thank the Government and people of India, the Gandhi family, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, the media, think tanks, and all who so willingly united with the South African High Commission for this cause. High Commissioner Majeke says to you all: “Nangamso” which means “Even Tomorrow” in Xhosa (a Vernacular language in South Africa which is also Nelson Mandela and High Commissione Majeke’s home language); “Even Tomorrow” may the people of India continue to unite with South Africa in the fight for a better and just world for all!
